Have Dinner, Help Out

Each year, Friendship Shelter sponsors one of its most enjoyable events -- one that citizens of Laguna create themselves. Dinners Across Laguna is a festive way to raise funds for this life-altering program that helps homeless men and women get back on their feet and into jobs and apartments. If you can hold a dinner at your home, please do -- the shelter is facing some major financial hurdles and can really use your help. How does it work? Easy. You get a group of your friends together for dinner (you'd be surprised at how easy it is to ask local restaurants and caterers to donate food items) and the proceeds go to the Shelter. What a community-building (and painless) way to gather your circle together and share the abundance we enjoy. You can have an informal Pie 'n' Burger affair and invite the neighbors in, put on a buffet with a couple of friends pitching in food items, or show off your own culinary skills -- the format, the level of entertaining, the number of guests and even the date are completely up to you. Tickets are $125 each and every penny goes to help the Shelter continue its programs.

Out with the old

If you missed it the last time, here's another chance to get rid of those bulky items that are a no-no to put in the trash. Computers, monitors, printers, mice, cables, fax machines, TVs and their ilk are hazardous e-waste and they must be responsibly disposed of. Surterre Properties is again sponsoring a free, no-hassle, drive-by-and-chuck-it-out drop-off of these items, on Saturday, January 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the LBUSD parking lot, 550 Blumont at Park Avenue. Mark your calendar for a January e-housecleaning!
